Ronald Calvy, Jr.

“Ron”

1968 – 2021

Ronald “Ron”  Calvy, Jr., age 52  died suddenly February 16, 2021 at his home in Drexel Hill. Affectionately known as “Uncle Ronnie” to his nieces, nephews and many who thought of him as an uncle. He is survived by his loving parents Denise (nee McAvoy) and Ronald Calvy, Sr., his sisters Liz (Kevin) Farren and Teri Calvy. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Joseph Kane, Kaitlin Farren, Maddie Kane, Kevin Farren, Kieran Farren as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends

Ron grew up in Havertown and attended St. Pius X School.  He loved playing basketball and baseball at many different levels.  He enjoyed his years at Cardinal O’Hara High School and was the graduating class of 1986.  Upon graduation he attended Penn State Brandywine Campus working towards his associate’s degree in business while also playing baseball for them.  During these years he held many different jobs working as a trainer at Four Seasons Racquetball Club in Brookhaven and also helped in the family business, Delco Printing.  On a trip up to the Northeast, he saw a franchise opportunity on a billboard for Rita’s Water Ice and shortly after, this opportunity became a reality for the family.  Opening on Ocean City’s boardwalk as the fourth franchise of the company, he began his career as an owner/operator of Rita’s Water Ice. For a span of 30 years, he worked at 6 different franchise locations. However, Ron spent the majority of his time at Drexel Hill where he established a great connection to many people throughout the community. During the off season he worked delivering packages for UPS for many years.  In his spare time, he was an avid Philadelphia sports fan attending many Phillies games.  He also loved watching the Eagles, but always had a special connection to the Atlanta Falcons.  Ocean City was his favorite place to visit where he loved walking the boardwalk and sitting on the beach.  Known for his great smile and contagious laugh, his greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewings Tuesday (February 23, 2021)  6-8pm and Wednesday (February 24, 2021) 8:30-9:30 am at the Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. His Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Pius X Church,  220 South Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Words just cannot express how deeply saddened we are to hear of Ron's passing. The best man at our wedding, a trusted friend, but more importantly a devoted son/brother/etc. Will never forget him.

Our sympathy goes out to the Calvy family and especially Ron & Denise. Remembering Ron from his years at St. Pius X grade school where he was a friend & classmate of our son, Bill. He was always with a smile on his face whenever we saw him at mass at St. Pius. He left this life too early and leaves many who will miss that smile.

My dad is the UPS guy that Ron helped on the truck for many Christmas seasons. I got to know Ron through my Dad. He was one of the nicest guys anybody could meet. He would always stop by the house throughout the year to visit and keep in touch. I always enjoyed seeing him. To the entire Calvy family, I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies. I am so sorry for your loss. Ron was a great guy and will surely be missed. God bless.
