John "Jack" Kelly Obituary

In Loving Memory of John “Jack” Kelly

November 4, 1922 - February 9, 2024

It is with both sadness and gratitude that we announce the peaceful passing of Jack Kelly, who lived a remarkable and fulfilling life for over a century.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Jack was the son of John and Margaret Kelly (nee Brennan). He  graduated from West Catholic High School before enlisting in the Army, where he served in the Pacific theater during World War II. After the war, he returned home to Philadelphia and attended La Salle University.

Jack began his career at the Veterans Administration where he met the love of his life, Rita Dennehy, to whom he was married for 70 years. He continued working for the federal government as an accountant until he retired.

Jack resided in Havertown, PA for over 30 years where he was an active member of St. Dorothy’s Parish. He and Rita loved traveling, especially to visit family in Florida. In later years, Jack and Rita moved to Granite Farms Estates in Media, PA, where he enjoyed gardening, working in the woodshop, and volunteering on many committees.

Jack prioritized family above all else. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and siblings Margaret Igoe, Charles Kelly and James Kelly. He is survived by his daughter Liz and three grandchildren, Jack (Lauren), Meghan and Bill, all of whom brought him great pride. He has one great-granddaughter, Brooke, who truly brought a light to his eyes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jack thoroughly enjoyed good conversation and was an enthusiastic storyteller. He witnessed the world undergo incredible transformations over the course of his 100 years. Yet, he retained a zest for life and a sharp wit that endeared him to all generations. His legacy is one of love, wisdom, and unwavering strength. He left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
