Ruth Ankney Obituary

 

Ruth Ann Ankney, 81 of Cochranville went to be with the Lord on March 4 2024. She was born in Peach Bottom, PA a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Henrietta Johnson Herr. A graduate of Solanco High School, she worked for the Avon Grove School District for 32 years in the cafeteria. As the 12th child of 13, family was very important to her. She was a member of Manor Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the ladies’ Circle and served as a deaconess and Sunday School teacher. An avid Phillies fan, Ruth Ann enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, bowling, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and comic strips. She was the beloved wife of Charles C. Ankney Jr. to whom she was married for 62 years. They enjoyed traveling and visited all US 50 states together. She was the loving mother of (Chuck) Charles C. Ankney III (Kathy) of Quarryville, Randall (Jennifer) of Peach Bottom, and Sheryl Goldhahn (David) of Cochranville. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Charles IV (Chad), Kristen, Bonn, Trevor and Hanna Ankney, Zachary Dignan and Jennifer and Daniel Goldhahn, 8 great grandchildren: Charles V (CJ), Stetson, Isaac, Vincent, Maxwell and Myles Ankney, Ethan Dignan and Cali Richard, two sisters: Betty Book of Quarryville, Barbara Caldwell of Georgia and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by 5 sisters: Esther and Beulah Herr, Florence Sheaffer, Mary Deitrich, Janet Fair and 5 brothers: John, Paul, Daniel, Richard and Frank Herr. A visitation will be held at Manor Presbyterian Church (505 Street Rd., Cochranville, PA 19330) on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 followed by a funeral service at 11:00, with Pastor Daniel Henderson officiating. Interment will be at Little Britain Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth Ann’s memory may be made to the Cleft Palate Clinic in Lancaster or Manor Presbyterian Church.
