1946 - 2026

Alan James Yaeger died peacefully on May 3, 2026, surrounded by his family. Alan (Al, Dad, Granddad) was born July 20, 1946 in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of Alfred Yaeger and Josephine (nee Gerbechesky).

Al graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1965 and attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he met a lovely young woman who worked at the city library. Al and Sharon (nee Hornsby) married March 1, 1969 at the chapel on Xavier’s campus. They then built their life together in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, raising three children (and three terriers) while Al worked as an underwriter for State Farm Insurance.

In his younger years, and before his health issues got the best of him, Al loved fishing, the Phillies, Long Beach Island, spoiling his pups, and frequenting the local thrift shops. An avid home chef, his skills were exemplified by his “special desserts” and Friday pizza nights, where he did his best to recreate the Trenton tomato pies of his youth. Al loved his family, was so very proud of his kids and grandkids, and was endlessly grateful to his loving wife Sharon, who stood by his side caring for him to the very end.

Al is survived by Sharon, children Mark, Elizabeth (Andy Cliver), Christina (Brandon Sterling), grandchildren Henry, James, Adriana, Madison, Morgan, Mason, Michael, and Will, sister Karen Marinelli (Don), as well as cousins, siblings-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents and by the family pups, Shasta (his “first baby”), Millie, and Abby.  

Relatives and friends are invited to Al's Viewing Monday, May 11, 2026 10:00AM at Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 where is his Funeral Service will follow at 11:00AM.
