Alonzo (Lonnie) H. Brown

It is with great sadness that the family of Alonzo H. Brown (Lonnie), 86 of Oxford Pa., announce his passing on Sunday, October 6, 2024 while receiving care at the Chester County Hospital. He is survived by his wife Velma Jane (Lane), with whom he shared 65 years of marriage; three sons: Allen Brown (Joanna), Alonzo Brown Jr. (Karen), and Vincent Brown (Vickie); as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Hayes S. and Mabel S. Brown of Oxford Pa.
Lonnie retired from the Mittal Steel company in Coatesville Pa. where he had been employed for over 40 years.  He was also very involved in the Union Fire Company of Oxford, where he was a member for 68 years.  Over that time, he held various administrative and fire line positions, including Fire Chief from 1970-1973 and President from 1997-1998.  He was a fire instructor with the Chester County Fire School for many years and had a great interest and focus in providing training on pumps, where co-instructors and trainees would say “he could get water from a rock.”
Lonnie was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family. He spent many hunting seasons in Potter County and many trips to the cabin where he instilled a love of nature and target shooting skills to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He enjoyed many winter sledding trips to Potter County and summer vacations in Ocean City, Maryland, always surrounded by family.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his friends and family.  A private service will be held for the family with a celebration of life to follow at a later date. The family requests donations to the Union Fire Company of Oxford, Pa. or Oxford United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers or gifts.
