Bridget Diamond McHugh
1947 – 2025
Bridget “Brett” McHugh (nee Diamond), age 78, of Springfield, died peacefully on September 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents, the late James and Mary (née Boyce), and her brother, Daniel. She is survived by her children, Peter McHugh, Anne McHenry (Daniel), Christopher McHugh (Gurneet), and Caroline Scimone (Michael). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Aidan and Kieran McHenry, Siobhan and Deaglan McHugh, Colin, Moira, and Ian Scimone, and her sister, Nancy Roche.
She was born in Philadelphia and was a proud alumna of St. Raymond Catholic School and Cardinal Dougherty High School, where she formed lifelong friendships. She loved taking care of her four children, and eventually she earned a nursing degree and became the night nurse at Divine Providence Village. She found great joy and satisfaction in caring for 95 women with intellectual disabilities whom she affectionately referred to as “my ladies.”
One of Bridget’s greatest passions was gardening. She was knowledgeable about hundreds of plant species, and she filled her yard with beautiful trees, plants, and flowers. Music was also a cherished part of her life as she could be heard singing throughout her home or singing to her children and grandchildren when they were babies. Bridget’s generosity extended beyond her family, whether giving to charities, sharing her home with those in need, or offering a warm smile and helping hand; her spirit touched all who knew her.
She had a deep love for Our Lady, as demonstrated by her mini May Processions that she would have for her children in her dining room. Her children knew they were loved unconditionally, and they will carry that love throughout their lives.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing 10:00 - 11:30 AM Friday, September 19, 2025, at Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Her Funeral Mass will be 12:00 PM at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA, followed by Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Glenside, PA, 19038.
