Bruce Mowday Obituary

BRUCE ROBERT MOWDAY SR of Quarryville, PA, age 66 transitioned into the Kingdom of Heaven on February 25th, 2024, after a long and strenuous battle with heart disease. Bruce passed while surrounded by his loved ones.

Bruce came into this world on October 29th,1957 in Coatesville, PA to Doris Clara Mercer Mowday and Christian Mowday.  After graduating from Cash Highschool in Coatesville, PA he went on to join the United States Navy where he honorably served his country from 1976-1979 while assigned to the USS Charles F. Adams stationed out of The U.S. Navy Yard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  After leaving the military Bruce held positions at Buck Iron before launching his own successful landscaping and lawn care business in Chester County, PA.  During the winters he worked for Sunoco home heating oil division. While in retirement Bruce enjoyed working as a taxi for the Amish, many of which became dear friends.

Bruce married the love of his life his wife Linda Lee Ward Mowday 1980 sharing 44 years of marriage.  Together they built a beautiful family raising their four children Cherise Sherman, Bruce R. Mowday Jr. (Bob Prettyman Sr.), Heather Craft (Jamal Craft), and Brittany Mowday (Devin Van Pelt). Bruce was a grandfather of nine grandchildren which he loved dearly Julia Rivera, Ariel Rivera, Fernando (Buddy) Rivera, Isaiah Craft, Jayden Craft, Olivia Craft, Amelia Craft, RLee Van Pelt, and Louelle Van Pelt.

Bruce an avid hunter and fisherman, never lost his love for the seas even after leaving the Navy. He frequently embarked on deep-sea fishing trips, relishing the salt spray and the thrill of the catch. As a true outdoorsman, he inherited a tradition of hunting trips in the mountains from his father. Bruce’s aim was unerring, and each winter, his freezers overflowed with venison-a testament to his skill and dedication.

But Bruce was more than a skilled marksman. He was a fearless, strong man who loved his family with intensity that defied hardship. In the crucible of life’s battles, he exemplified the true strength required to persevere, and even when the world weighed heavy on his shoulders Bruce remained ever willing to help others. Whether it was a neighbor in need or a fellow hunter seeking guidance Bruce extended a hand without hesitation.

His legacy wasn’t just about hunting or fishing trips. It was about the stories he shared-the laughter shared at family gatherings. Bruce was a teacher passing down knowledge and wisdom, and never turned down an opportunity to throw in a prank. His eyes held a sparkle, even in those final days, as he bid farewell to his loved ones, and his parting words were kind, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart well-loved.

He was predeceased by his mother and father Doris and Chistian Mowday, Brother Gerald Mowday, brother Kevin Wade Mowday, and granddaughter Olivia Hope Craft. He is survived by brothers Christian Mowday Jr and Thomas Mowday and sister Candice Mowday.

Services to honor Bruce will be announced in the coming weeks as the family has plans for an outdoor venue.
