Connie was a proud graduate of John W. Hallahan High School for girls, class of 1958. She was retired from the Bell Telephone, where she worked for 20 years. After retirement, she volunteered alongside her husband with the Catholic Ministry at Ware Presbyterian Village for many years.
She was a woman of deep faith, and prayed the Holy Rosary daily. In addition, Connie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent her time frequenting any and all events for her many grandchildren—from sporting events to concerts, recitals, graduations, grandparents day celebrations, and more. Connie was an avid, lifelong Phillies fan. Her other hobbies included crossword puzzles, watching movies, and reading the Star Magazine, her daily newspapers, presidential biographies, and other historical non-fiction.
Connie was known for her sense of humor, her one liners, her ‘words of wisdom’, and her willingness to strike up a conversation with anyone she encountered.
Connie is survived by the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Charles Merkel; three daughters: Mary Bea Damico (Sam), Anne Marie Finley, and Connie Thresher (Oliver); eleven grandchildren: Kara (Thresher) Tabella (Joe), Kevin Mirarchi (Brittany), Kristina Thresher, Courtney Thresher, Steven Mirarchi (Maggie), Maria (Damico) Celusniak (Chris), Samuel Damico, Oliver Thresher, Anna Damico, Sarah Damico, and Allison Finley; her beloved great grandchildren: Joseph, Luke, Ryan and Katharine Tabella, Grace and Nora Mirarchi, and David Celusniak; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her eight siblings.
