David A. Carruth, Sr., of Havertown, PA died peacefully on January 15, 2024, at the age of 71.
Dave is survived by his wife, Mary Carruth, children, Kelly Carruth (Eric Hayes), Sara Watt (Curtis Watt), and David Carruth Jr. (Gina Carruth), his grandchildren Curtis J. Watt III, Mason Christopher Watt, Michael Curtis Watt, and Connor David Watt, and his brother James Carruth (Deborah Carruth), along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dave was born in Sacramento, California to parents Mary Eileen and Victor Carruth. He graduated from Dublin High School, California. He received an Associates Degree in Business from Delaware County Community College.
Dave served honorably in the United States Army from 1974 – 1980. While stationed in Kaiserslautern Germany Dave performed as a Ventriloquist with the Entertainment Showcase, sponsored by the USO, where along with his sidekick, Andrew T. Redhead III, entertained audiences all across Europe. After his military service Dave married Mary in 1981, and settled in Pennsylvania.
Dave joined an education organization wherein he would travel to elementary schools across Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, educating children on fire safety, drug abuse prevention, and respect for others. Dave used his talents as a ventriloquist along with props and games that entertained as well as educated children of all ages.
Dave was passionate about Ventriloquism. He was a long-time member of the International Ventriloquist Society, and attended the annual Vent Haven International Ventriloquist Convention for many years with his son David Jr. He served as Stage Manager for the Convention and considered everyone affiliated with the event his second family.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Saturday, January 27, 2024 2:00PM to 3:00PM where a memorial service will follow at Ruffenach Funeral Home 4900 Township Line, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the American Diabetes Association.
