Dennis F. Dunphy
Dennis F. Dunphy, age 79, of Pilgrim Gardens in Drexel Hill died peacefully August 7, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. ‘Fun Denny’ was a kind, adventurous man who had hundreds of friends who truly loved him. Dennis always had a smile on his face and his charismatic manner always made you feel so special. He loved to cook, eat, and travel, especially to watch his brother Fran’s basketball games. He loved watching Jeopardy, documentaries, and was a big fan of all Philadelphia sports. His family and friends were his heart. His generosity reached generations. Perhaps you were a recipient of a $2 bill or even a $20.
Dennis (aka ‘America’s Guest’) was an entrepreneur who worked in the restaurant and bar business in Philadelphia (DownUnder, Waterworks Café, to name a few) and in Florida (Cousin’s Pizza on Amelia Island). Dennis was also a general contractor in the Philadelphia area and in Florida. He loved to work, because he wanted his friends (new and old) to have a delicious meal or a renovated home.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Francis J. and Josephine V. (nee DiDomenico) Dunphy and is survived by his ‘Sweetie’ Kim Minger and his best friend Betty; his daughter, Amelia Dunphy (Jason Claxton), and his grandchildren, Jaden, Carter and Patricia Grace; his siblings Fran (Ree) Dunphy, JoAnn (Bob) Campbell, Jayne (Frank) Lomas ; nieces and nephews Jan, Amy, Brian, Michael, Jill, and John Patrick; and great nieces and great nephews; along with the Minger Family; and the special Dunphy and DiDomenico cousins that were such an integral part of his life, especially Pat Procacci; and countless good friends and godchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, August 24th from 1-4:15 p.m. at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Rd., Drexel Hill, PA 19026; his Funeral Mass will follow at 4:30 p.m. Burial Private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cathy Miller Cancer Fund, c/o Jeanie Diamond, 711 Wildwood Avenue, Williamstown, NJ 08094-3407 or electronically at https://cathymillercancerfund.org. Dennis was the recipient of the inaugural Jack McCafferty Volunteer Award for his dedication to the Hope Lodge and this wonderful charity.
