1946 - 2022

Donald B. Spence, Sr., age 76, of Springfield, PA passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at home after a long battle with a chronic lung disease. 

Don was born in Anthony, WV on January 18, 1946, the eldest child of the late Otho and Genevieve Spence.  After serving in the Army, he settled in Delaware County, PA and raised his family in Springfield. 

After a brief stint as an insurance agent, Don spent his career mainly in the automotive industry.  He was an auto mechanic and great diagnostician.  This experience served him well as he transitioned into service roles in several area auto dealerships and rose to become Service Manager.  He loved helping his customers and enjoyed his work.  Once he retired, he kept busy.  Anyone who knew Don knows he was a doer and a giver, and there wasn’t much that he couldn’t fix or repair.  He was usually the first person there when someone needed a hand and the last person that would ever ask for help from anyone.  In his free time, one of his greatest joys was taking his Harley out for a long ride and taking pictures of his pooch, Jodie. 

Don was a devoted family man.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene (nee Gatto) Spence, his sister, Dorothy Lemons, his brother, Michael (Sheila) Spence, his children, Anita (John) Green, Donald Spence, Jr. and his partner, Brenda, Brian (Christy) Spence, his grandchildren, Christopher, Charlie, Molly, Scott, Nicole and Christy, his great grandson, Christopher John, several nieces and nephews, his faithful four-legged companion, Jodie, and many friends.

His service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 am at Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.  Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Ruffenach Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
