Gloria Condo Obituary

GLORIA T. (nee Valentino) CONDO

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Gloria Theresa Condo, who left us on 14 July 2024 after a beautifully lived life.  Full of love, laughter, and devotion she touched the lives of all who knew her.

Gloria (nee Valentino), a South Philly girl, grew up on Dorrance Street and graduated from St. Monica’s Elementary School and Southern High School.  She met and married Thomas, a South Philly boy, who grew up on Hoffman Street.  Together they lovingly raised their family in their home on 22nd and Wolf Streets.  They were married for 52 years prior to his passing in 2002.

Gloria and Tom enjoyed going to Tom’s basketball games, family trips to Wildwood, and hosting their annual open house on New Year’s Day.  She also loved to dance and was known to crash weddings with friends to dance, jitterbugging out in the streets of South Philly.  Gloria was a talented cook and made a mean Italian gravy and meatballs, scrumptious chicken parmesan and perfected a delectable pizzelle cookie as well as many other amazing dishes for family and friends.  Her kitchen never closed.  Some of her favorite things were spending time with family and friends, watching game shows and the Hallmark channel, playing the lottery and slot machines, trips to Disney with family and friends, and listening to Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones.

Gloria was employed by the Defense Department, Bell Telephone, and later worked for 20 years in the Condo family’s tailor shop.  A devout Catholic, Gloria found solace in the examples set by St. Anthony and St. Theresa in her daily life.

Preceded in death by her husband Thomas Charles Condo, brother Nicholas (Josephine), sister Jeanette Wennerholt (Robert) and leaving a legacy through sons Thomas and John (Heather), grandchildren Nicholas (Tiffany), John, and Samantha, great-grandchildren Steven and Preston, brother Carmen (Tina) and nieces and nephews.  Gloria’s memory will be a guiding light for all who knew her.

Services will be held at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church on July 20th.   Viewing will be held at 9:00am followed by Mass at 10:00am.
