James W. Davis Jr. “Jim”
December 29, 1937 – July 25, 2026
James W. Davis Jr., known to his family and friends as Jim, a beloved husband, father,
brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 25, 2026, at the age of 88.
Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 29, 1937, to the late James
W. Davis Sr. and Evelyn Davis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Davis,
and his sister, Nancy Davis.
Jim devoted his life to his wife of 65 years, Kay, and his daughters. His family was the
most important part of his life, and he took great pride in providing for them, caring for
them, and always being there when they needed him. He was a devoted husband and
father whose love for his family was evident in all that he did.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He also dedicated
30 years of his working life to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, where his hard work and
dedication earned him numerous awards and commendations. Jim was especially
proud of the work he did on the USS New Jersey, a ship that held a special place in his
heart and was a source of great pride throughout his life.
Outside of work, Jim loved to build things, especially through woodworking. He enjoyed
working with his hands and turning pieces of wood into something useful, beautiful, or
lasting. He had a talent for taking on projects from start to finish and was always willing
to share his skills with others.
Jim could fix just about anything. He was always willing to help family, friends, and
neighbors with their projects and repairs. He shared his time, skills, and knowledge
freely, never expecting anything in return. Whether he was building something new or
fixing something that had seen better days, Jim was happiest when he could use his
hands and his talents to help someone else. If you needed Jim, you knew he would be
there.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine “Kay” Davis (McGilligan); his daughters,
Linda Davis and Karen Sliwinski and her husband, Scot; his brother and best friend,
John R. Davis and his wife, Mary; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jim leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a legacy of love and devotion to his family,
and countless things built by his hands that will serve as reminders of him for years to
come.
Rest in peace, Jim. You spent your life building, creating, helping, and taking care
of the people you loved. You will always be loved, remembered, and missed.
At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral services. His family will remember and
celebrate his life privately, surrounded by the memories and love he leaves behind.
