James Devenny Obituary

James M. Devenny

1954 - 2023

James M. Devenny, age 69, died suddenly May 3, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents the late John J. Devenny and Helen G. (nee Subers) Devenny-Scullion, step-father Thomas J. Scullion and brother John M. Devenny. He is survived by his wife Barbara (nee James), brother Edward (Ruthanne) and sister Kathleen O’Gara. Also survived by sister in laws of Mary James, Joan James, Peggy (Tom) Creighton and brother in law Robert (Eileen) James. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jim was known for his kindness, generosity, fun spirit, zest for life and deep faith in God.  He was always rooting for the underdog and put others first and foremost.

Whether you needed a place to stay, a ride to an appointment, his family funded trip to Dorney Park, a good meal and cold beer (they're in the pantry) or words of encouragement, Jim was always there.

One may ask how can a person carry themselves this way, to do so much for so many?  The answer in Jim's case was always based on his great faith.  Always a staple at St. Eugene's daily and Sunday mass, you could bet the house that Jim and Barb were there, together, in the exact same pew.

Jim had many nieces and nephews, who he looked after and treated as if they were his own... a gem who will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewings 6-8pm Sunday, May 7th, and 9-10am Monday, May 8th, at the Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Rd., Drexel Hill, PA 19026. His Funeral Mass will be Monday May 8th 10:30am at St. Eugene Church, 200 S. Oak Ave., Primos, PA 19018, Int. Ss Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Eugene Church.
