Jane Henny Obituary

Jane Ann Henny (nee Bain), age 92, of Ocean City, NJ, formerly Drexel Hill, PA, passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by her children on January 7th, 2022. She was born to James Bain and Kathryn (nee Kane) on March 11, 1929 and lived on East Hart Lane in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, PA.  Jane was affectionately known as “Jane Bain from East Hart Lane” in those days.  She graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1947 and West Chester State Teacher’s College in 1951. She met her husband, Don Henny from Lancaster, PA, at West Chester and they married in 1952. Jane taught kindergarten for the Upper Darby School District at Drexel Hill and Highland Park Elementary Schools.  She lived most of her married life in Drexel Hill, PA where she and Don raised 3 children- Michael, Patti, and Donna. She loved being involved at St. Dorothy’s with Cub Scouts, Home and School, Woman’s Bowling League and her children’s team sports.  She especially enjoyed her fund raising contributions by spearheading the creation of several cook books for St. Dorothy and Cardinal O’Hara High School Home and School Associations. Jane and Don retired to their summer home in Ocean City, NJ in 1995, where they enjoyed many happy years in their “Cottage by the Sea”. They continued to keep busy with tennis, golf, and beach and boardwalk fun with their children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed several winter months in Bonita Springs, FLA with many dear friends from Drexel Hill.

Jane was an avid reader (2 newspapers a day), never missed the 6 o’clock news (Channel 10), was always aware of the weather forecast (thank you, Hurricane Swartz!), followed the 76-ers through thick and thin (trusting the process), and anxiously awaited delivery of her weekly People Magazine(hoping Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga would someday get together).  She took the pitfalls of aging with a grain of salt and always had an optimistic outlook and smile on her face. She decorated with her signature color…Pink, enjoyed having a vase of daisies on the table, had her camera ready for all occasions, loved her necklaces and was always up for shopping for a “new outfit”.

She was truly a very special woman who enjoyed the fun in life. Her children, grandchildren and dear friends will miss hearing her signature question…”What’s hot?”

She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Don Henny, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her 3 children: Michael J of Pittsburgh, PA, Patricia Ann Stocker (Will) of Havertown, PA, Donna Jane Johnstone of Newtown Square, PA, her 8 grandchildren: Ryan (Marie), Kyle (Jessica), and Bryce Henny of Pittsburgh, PA, William (Emily), Samuel, Jane, and Tricia Stocker of Havertown, PA, and Jennifer Johnstone of Newtown Square, PA, and her 2 Great-Grandsons:  Roman and Silas Henny of Pittsburgh, PA.  A Mass and celebration of Jane’s life will be held on her birthday, March 11, 2022. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 am at St. Dorothy’s Church, Township Line and Burmont Roads, Drexel Hill, PA.  Burial will follow at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Sproul Road, Springfield, PA.

Contributions in Jane’s memory can be sent to St. Dorothy’s Church, Township Line and Burmont Roads, Drexel Hill, PA.
