John F. Crothers, Sr.
1940-2025
John F. Crothers, Sr., age 85, of Delaware County died peacefully June 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara J. (nee McBride) Crothers, his brothers William and Martin Crothers, and his parents William and Catherine (nee Malloy) Crothers. He is survived by his children James (Patricia) Williams, John F. (Jennifer) Crothers, Jr., Catherine Crothers, and Colleen Crothers. Also survived by grandchildren Corinna, Alexandra, Meagan, and Brian; great grandchildren Kennedy and Avila. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John was born in West Philadelphia, attended both West Catholic and Bartram High Schools, but he chose to leave early to honorably serve his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. John spent his career as a member of the International Longshoreman’s Association working as a checker at the Packer Ave shipping terminal. His favorite hobbies were enjoying a good meal, relaxing in his recliner reading his newspaper and watching sports with his brother.
John was an incredibly hard-working man who ensured that his family was cared for and loved. He was funny, smart, compassionate, and could start and hold a conversation with anyone he met. He was courageous, tremendously strong, and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Friday, June13, 2025 beginning at 10:00am to 10:45am at Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA, 19026 where his funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
