1943 - 2021


     John A. Hughes, Jr., (Tony) died peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital after a long battle with cancer.   He was the husband of Eileen M. Hughes (Mason).  The couple wed on June 8, 1968; celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary this year.  


     Born on October 5, 1943 in Darby, PA, he was the son of the late John and Marie Hughes.  Tony was a graduate of Bonner High School (1961).   He served in the United States Army (1962 to 1964).   Tony, born with a quick wit and the gift of gab, spent his life as a salesman.  He also spent many years coaching youth sports at Hilltop Babe Ruth Baseball League, Havertown Soccer League and St. Dot’s Intramural basketball.  Tony was a devoted husband, father and beer drinker. 


     Along with his wife Eileen, at his time of his death, Tony was survived by his children, Sean and his wife Kristiane, Patrick and his wife Cara, Megan and Timothy; eight grandchildren, Cierra, Madison, Jack, Nolan, Katherine, Reagan, Keira and Olivia; one great grandson, Caiden; two sisters, Patricia and her husband Tom, and Judy and her husband John. 


     A brief viewing will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, starting at 9 a.m. at Saint Dorothy’s Catholic Church (4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026) followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Broomall, PA.
