Joseph Monzo Obituary

JOSEPH PAUL MONZO

10--06-1947 to 06-29-2024

Joseph P Monzo passed away at his home on June 29, 2024 after his brave bout with lung cancer. He was born on October 6, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA to Alma Schenzle and Paul Monzo. Survived by his sister Bridget Rosemiller and predeceased in death by sister Alma Pane (2022)

Joe retired from the City of Philadelphia as a Tax Specialist after 35 years. He looked forward to pursuing his many hobbies and spending time with family and friends. Joe was a music afficionado who loved live-music of all genres. He was a member of the South Philly Mummers String Bands for 27 years. He enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow musicians and the excitement of strutting up Broad St on New Year’s Day.

Joe was also a proud Vietnam Veteran serving as a Radio Operator  receiving the National Defense Service Medal and both W/60 and M16 Sharpshooter awards. He made many contributions to the Veterans Administration and local charities in his later years.

Uncle Joey will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews Robert, Beverly, Debbie, Paul Rosemiller, Denise, Carol, Lisa and Paul Pane. He was a kind, generous, spiritual person who will be remembered for his joyous laughter, easy smile and his very detailed storytelling.

Arrangements will be held at Hillside Cemetery on July 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ronald McDonald House 3925 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104. giving@rmhcphilly.org (curing kids with cancer)
