Obituary

Josephine M. Davey

"Josy"

1933 - 2023

The Lord called our beloved Josy home on August 16, 2023, when Josy passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family. Josy was pre-deceased by her parents, Joseph and Josephine Flood Davey, and her siblings Thomas Davey, Agnes Abate, and Mary Egan. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert J. Egan Jr., Joseph and Carleen Egan, Eileen and Tony DeLuca, Dennis Egan, Maryanne and Ed Linke, and Kathleen and Greg Casabona. She is also survived by  her great nieces and nephews, Ivana DeLuca, Bianca Vuotto, Alexa Egan, Christopher Egan, Tyler Linke, Randy Linke, Nicole Linke, Julia Casabona, and Lewis Casabona.

Josy was born in South Philadelphia and lived for 60 years at 20th and Tasker Streets and attended St. Edmonds Grade School and Hallahan High School.  She was the treasurer for Hallahan Alumni for over 60 years and helped to organize their annual events. She never missed the Mummers parade.  She moved to Delaware County in 1989 and resided in Clifton Heights for over 30 years.  She loved her home on Bishop Avenue and especially her neighbors there.

Josy worked as an Executive Secretary at Wyeth Labratory in Radnor, PA for 45 years where she met several dear friends and kept in touch with them even long after she retired.

Josy's real passion outside of work and her family was the Philadelphia Phillies.  She was a season ticketholder for 55 years, and loved going to the ballgames with her dear friends Ann and Betty. She went to Connie Mac Stadium, the Vet, and Citizens Bank Park, and went every year to Clearwater to meet friends there for Spring Training.  She loved her Phillies and all the wonderful people she met at the stadiums.

Josy took her family every year to North Wildwood NJ for vacation.  She loved the beach and the boardwalk and ice cream at Pierre's.  Per passion for the shore was something she shared with her family and friends for many years.

Somehow Josy found time to work, take care of her aging relatives and friends, go to the Phillies games, and alumni meetings, adoration and rosary and church, and attend every birthday, communion, wedding or graduation that the family had.  She gave freely of her time and her love and will be missed by all that knew her.

Friends and family can visit Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 9:30-10:30am at Holy Cross Church located at 651 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA 19064.  Visitation will be followed by Mass at 10:30, then a Christian Burial at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetary in Broomall.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or take care of someone in need, because that's what Josy would do.
