Lawrence J. Dougherty
1947 - 2024
Lawrence J. Dougherty, age 76, of Ocean View, DE passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carole and two children: Caroleyn Dougherty, Larry Dougherty and his wife Sheila and granddaughter Sara Dougherty.
Larry grew up in Philadelphia, got married then moved to Delaware County and eventually retired in Ocean View, Delaware.
He is survived by a wife, two children and a granddaughter. He has a large extended family and he loved them all. He was a great husband and father.
He was in the Electrical Union for over 50 years and loved the work and his co-workers. Larry was also a very talented craftsman in many other areas and was quite the perfectionist. It may have been on Union time but if Larry put it up it was not coming down. He believed anything worth doing was worth doing right.
Larry was a huge History buff and was well versed in all areas of history. He would be the person to call if you needed to phone a friend about a historical event.
Larry had a dry sense of humor but could break out in serious laughter at very silly things.
Larry was a dedicated family man always providing for his family and never complaining. He enjoyed spending time with his family such as going to Baseball games with his daughter Caroleyn and watching sports with his son Larry. He adored his granddaughter and loved watching her grow into the beautiful person she has become.
Larry survived 3 serious health events and the Doctors could not believe how strong he was and what great will power he had to recover each time.
Larry used to say that God didn't want him but this last time, I guess he did. He fought the good fight but this time he lost. He is with God at last now and free from all the health issues that he had endured through the years.
Larry was my friend, my lover, and my life and I will miss him everyday.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation 11-12pm where his memorial service will follow at 12pm Friday, June 14, 2024 at Saint Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Rd, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
