LORRAINE KATHERINE GOLDSBOROUGH December 30, 1928 - November 21, 2022
Mrs. Lorraine K. Goldsborough was born in Atlantic City, NJ. Relocating to Philadelphia, PA as a child with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton and Rose Todd along her 5 brothers (Milton, Arthur, William, Lennard, and Jackie) and 1 sister (Mazie), Lorraine remained a Philadelphia resident for the remainder of her life. She met Mr. Clifford E. Goldsborough, Sr. on a blind date arranged by his cousin and best friend, Albert. They married six months later and remained married for the next 33 years until he departed this life. From their union, they were blessed with five children: Elaina, Arthur, Monica, Clifford, and Sheila.
Lorraine loved to travel and lived a full and wonderfully active life. With a genuine love for education, Lorraine, who was unable to complete her high school education at the scheduled time, went back to receive her GED. Immediately following that success and encouraged by her best friend Mrs. Virginia Butts, a teacher at EM Stanton Elementary School in South Philadelphia where she volunteered as her classroom assistant, Lorraine went on to receive her Associates in Elementary Education from Philadelphia Community College, her Bachelor of Education from Temple University, her Master of Special Education from Temple University and a Master’s Plus Thirty in Education and Leadership from Antioch University. She remained on the Dean’s List for her entire College tenure. Lorraine, a retired 22-year Special Education Teacher, taught at both Edwin M. Stanton Elementary School and at Delaplaine McDaniel Elementary School.
Lorraine served on various Boards at Philadelphia Community College and volunteered for several years in her community at Saint Agnes Hospital prior to its conversion to Mercy Health System. Lorraine was a volunteer at her place of residence, Saint John Neuman Place and served as a coordinator of the Meals on Wheels program, the Sunday afternoon Mass, and various other resident activities for which she received numerous awards. Lorraine also received an Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office for Catechetical Formation Award in Gratitude for her Years of Outstanding Service to Parish Education.
Her desire to teach children extended far beyond her retirement from the Philadelphia School System. She was a treasured member of her beloved Saint Edmond Church where she actively served as a Eucharistic Minister, the Sodality (Intercessory Prayer Ministry), a Lector, a Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer, and a CCD instructor for many years until the onset of the 2019 pandemic. Lorraine received multiple Certificates of Appreciation and/or Acknowledgement from organizations ranging from the International African American Museum to Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home. Her countless awards and/or certificates are too numerous to mention.
She was preceded in death by her daughters Sheila and Elaina, her son Arthur and her husband, Clifford E. Goldsborough, Sr. She is survived by two children, daughter, Monica Goldsborough, and son, Clifford E. Goldsborough, Jr (wife: Raye D. Goldsborough), her grandchildren, Edward Todd (Angela Todd), Sharaye Goldsborough, Shiela Goldsborough, and Nakia Todd, and the blessing of a host of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 brother, Lennard Todd and 1 sister, Mazie (Mickey) Lindsay and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
Lorraine, escorted by angels, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 21, 2022.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Monday, November 28 at 9-9:45AM, St. Edmond Church, 21st St. and Snyder Ave. Philadelphia. Funeral Mass to follow at 10AM. Interment Cathedral Cemetery in Philadelphia.
