M. Patricia Charno Obituary

M. Patricia "Pat" Charno

1936 - 2024

M. Patricia “Pat” (Corcoran) Charno, 87, died peacefully on Sunday, January 28th.  Pat was predeceased by her devoted husband of 64 years, Ronald J. “Ron” Charno Sr. and her son Ronald Jr. (Kathy).  She is survived by her loving children, sons Nicholas (Mary), Kevin, Thomas (Maryellen), and only daughter Maria. “Grandmom” had 9 grandchildren that thought the world of her--Marc, Alison, Alex, Taryn, RJ, Thomas, Matt, Luke and Michaela. Pat was also great-grandmother to Jack, William, Henderson, Faye and Bennett. Pat is survived by her brothers Thomas Corcoran and John Corcoran, sister Kathleen Reinecker, and predeceased by sisters Eileen Saunders and Peggy White.

Born in West Philadelphia, Pat was the eldest child of Thomas and Mary Corcoran (nee Murphy) who emigrated to America from Ireland. Growing up in West Philadelphia and graduating from West Catholic High School for girls, Pat made countless friends with whom she remained close through the years.

Pat was devoted to her sweet husband Ron, the love of her life. Their love story began in Ocean City NJ and blossomed in West Philadelphia where they married on Halloween 1959. They moved to Drexel Hill in 1963 where they raised their family and lived together for over 60 years. Pat went back to college when her youngest child was in first grade. She loved the challenge of the academic world. While balancing the family activities and a husband that traveled for work, Pat excelled and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in May of 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Civilization. Following graduation, Pat spent time working with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

Pat and Ron loved to travel and enjoyed visiting Australia, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, China, Japan, Mexico, Tahiti, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Their favorite destination was Key West, where they visited often over the years. They also enjoyed many beach trips with family to various Jersey shore locations.

Pat was known for her sharp wit and great sense of humor. She enjoyed spirited conversations with family, friends and acquaintances she met during her travels. She was an ardent reader, a passion that she passed onto her children. She also enjoyed spending time working in the family gardens.

Pat will be deeply missed by her family and those that loved her. While saddened, we are celebrating the fact that Pat and Ron are now together again.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation Saturday, February 10th 9:30-10:30AM at Saint Bernadette of Lourdes Church in Drexel Hill followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30AM.
