1941 – 2025

Margaret “Maggie” McGovern, 84, of Drexel Hill, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on January 28, 1941, Margaret was the oldest child of James B. and Elizabeth A. (née Connell) McGovern. She attended St. Andrew the Apostle, Holy Child Academy, and Immaculata College before going on to serve many years in the newspaper industry, working with The Philadelphia Bulletin, The San Francisco Examiner, and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Margaret was an ardent supporter of the Philadelphia Ballet, a cozy mystery aficionado, a proud Upper Darbonian, and a beloved sister and aunt to her many siblings, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. and Elizabeth A. (née Connell) McGovern, and her brother, James B. Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law JoAnn (wife of the late James B. Jr.); her siblings Bernard (Eileen), William (Taida), and Marie (Donald); and her nieces and nephews: James (Christine), Angela (Rob), Mary Elizabeth (Matt), Jim (Janelle), John, Bess (David), Bern (Sharone), Brian, Kevin, Chris, and Dan.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Rd. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Bryn Mawr Hospital for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philadelphia Ballet.
