MARIO "Marty" M. ALONZO

Age 92, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving daughters. Mario was born in Passaic, NJ and grew up in Lyndhurst, NJ. He attended and graduated from Lyndhurst High School, Class of 1950. He went on to Rutgers University (College of Pharmacy) in Newark where he graduated in 1954 as valedictorian. He served in the Army for 2 years from 1956-1958 as a pharmacy specialist in the medical branch. He worked as a registered pharmacist as owner of Rahway Pharmacy in the 60's and early 70's before working as a pharmacy auditor for NJ Blue Cross/Blue Shield for three decades before retiring. Mario, also known as Marty to his family, or Mike, to many of his friends, enjoyed just being with people. He loved to chat up a storm with his many stories. He was a fan of movies and plays and having lived in New York City for 30+ years, was able to partake of the vibrancy the Big Apple had to offer. In his younger years he enjoyed participating in theater groups. He also liked to dabble in painting. Many will remember his sharp mind and unbelievable memory even at age 92. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Beloved father of Marianne Kane-Jenkinson (the late Howard) and Paula (Steven) Ruffenach; loving grandfather of Michael (Jenny) Kane, Kelly Ruffenach (Helene), and Kevin Ruffenach (Nick); dear great grandfather of Andrea and Natalie Kane. Also survived by his dear cousin Judi Curtis, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, December 19 at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst, NJ; Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30AM. Inurnment Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
