Mary E. Buggy
1940 - 2022
Mary E. Buggy (nee Boyle) age 82, a longtime resident of Drexel Hill, passed away on May 8, 2022. Mary was one of the Boyle girls from Sharon Hill, five sisters born within 5 years; Bessie, Peggy, Renie, Mary and Connie. Their mother and father were Peggy and Connell Boyle from Donegal, Ireland. The girls attended Holy Child Academy in Sharon Hill located across the street from their home on Woodland Avenue. Their mother was famous for her large Sunday family dinners, which included the five daughters, their husbands and 24 grandchildren.
After graduating from Holy Child in 1957, she went to work at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. She attended night school at St. Joseph's University, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Later, she received a Master's degree in Counseling from Villanova University. She served as Executive Director of Daemion Counseling Center in Berwyn, PA from 1994 to her retirement in 2007. Working as a counselor was her passion, as she loved helping those in distress.
In 1969, she married John Buggy. They raised their family in Drexel Hill since 1974 and have been longtime members of St. Dorothy's Parish. Mary was predeceased by her parents Connell and Margaret (nee Hegarty) Boyle, sisters Elizabeth (the late Joseph) Ciliberto, Margaret Carr, and Irene Kimmel. She was the beloved wife of John Buggy and the loving mother of Sean (Amy Vulpio) Buggy, Mark Buggy, and Alice (Jason) Miller. She is survived by her two granddaughers, Marion Miller and Genevieve Buggy, sister Constance Connolly, sisters-in-law Margaret Pilong and Lois Buggy, and brothers-in-law Thomas Pilong and Thomas Kimmel.
Relatives and friends are invited for her viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 pm and Friday morning 9-10:45 am at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026, where her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am.
