Mary Rose Dempsey

November 12, 1921 – July 20, 2024

Mary R. Dempsey (nee Busch) of Havertown, and formerly of Drexel Hill, died peacefully on July 20, 2024 after living 102 blessed years. Born and raised in Kellyville and a descendant of the Charles Kelly Family, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Busch (nee Kelly).

Mary attended St. Charles grade school and Notre Dame High School. She worked at the Navy Yard during World War II where she met her husband, Jim. Mary took time to raise her children and then returned to work in retail sales at the age of 50 for 20 years. At the age of 70 she started working with her daughter, Tee, hanging wallpaper for 26 years. She loved spending time with her family and numerous friends, and was an enthusiastic babysitter to her grandchildren and was affectionately known as LaLa to many.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late James W. Dempsey, loving mother of Jimmy Dempsey, Tee Dempsey and Bob Dempsey (Sheila).  Predeceased by her siblings Anna McCoy, Francis Busch and Jack Busch.  Adoring grandmother (LaLa) to three grandchildren Colleen D’Elia (Steve), Katie Dempsey, and Brian Dempsey (Julia).  Caring great-grandmother to Vivian Mary and Roman D’Elia.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing 10:00 -11:00 AM followed by Mass at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3422 Dennison Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA  19026.  Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
