Mary Ann Funchion

1939 - 2021

Mary Ann Funchion (nee Dorrian) age 82 of Media, PA passed away on June 7, 2021 exactly as she lived her life, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, her parents, Elizabeth and Daniel Dorrian, her sister Betsy McCusker and her brother Tom Dorrian. She is survived by her six children, Maureen Easton (Bill), Richard (Mary), Daniel (Justina), Patrick (Debbie), Kate, and Christine Scully (Tom) and 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her siblings Daniel (Pat), John, Kathleen and brother-in-law, Dan McCusker. 

 

Mary was one of six children born to her Irish immigrant parents. She grew up in southwest Philadelphia and was a proud graduate of Most Blessed Sacrament and West Catholic Girls High School Class of 1956. She married Richard Funchion in 1961 and they settled in southwest Philadelphia to raise their six children. She and Richard moved to Springfield, PA in 1975. Richard passed away in 1982. 

Mary was a member of Saint Dorothy’s Parish and spent many years as the receptionist at Apple Vacations and Dunwoody Village. 

Mary’s greatest joy was her large family and her many friends from all facets of her life. She loved to celebrate her Irish heritage, loved Irish music, and drinking Manhattans. But what brought her the most joy was watching her grandchildren grow up. She celebrated every milestone with them and was so proud of all they did. 

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Mary’s life at a viewing on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at St. Dorothy’s Church, Drexel Hill  and Friday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Ruffenach Funeral Home, Drexel Hill with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Dorothy’s Church. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Dorothy’s School or Little Sisters of the Poor Philadelphia.
