Mary M. McHugh
July 12, 1932 – January 2, 2026
Mary M. McHugh (nee Artman) age 93, of Havertown, died peacefully, January 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Daniel McHugh in 1996, both parents and two infant brothers. She is survived by her loving children Dan (Julie) McHugh, Maureen (Pat) McElwee, Gerry (Tracey) McHugh, Carolyn (Greg) Dunn, and Margie (John) Tumolo. Also survived by 14 adoring grandchildren, Erin (Dan) Swift, Kristi (Kevin) Stengel, Shaun (Melissa) McElwee, Michael (Janelle)McElwee, Kevin McElwee, Casey McHugh, Brendan McHugh, Colin McHugh, Stephanie (Joe) Finnerty, Catherine (Chris) Whitmore, Michelle (Frank) Sortino, Brittany (John) Travia, Matthew Babin and Chelsea Babin and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mary was born on July 12, 1932, to George and Margaret (nee Silk) Artman. She grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and was a proud graduate of Good Shepherd Grade School and West Catholic High School for Girls, Class of 1950. She later went on to work for the Curtis Publishing Company. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately known as Mom-Mom, Queen Mum and Seashore Mom-Mom.
She was selfless, strong, had a great sense of humor and always put family first. Mary loved music. The radio in the kitchen was always playing, and she was quick to sing a tune at any time. She was a lover of animals and had many pets and grand pets that she loved to spoil. Her Havertown home was the center for countless gatherings, birthdays, holidays and the annual St. Patty’s Day party. Mary loved to vacation at the Jersey Shore where she enjoyed watching her kids and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren gather on the beach which created countless memories.
Mary was a long-time parishioner of St. Dorothy’s Church in Drexel Hill. She spent much time volunteering when her children attended school and made many special friends along the way. In later years, she committed to weekly Adoration and Rosary.
Mary will be remembered for all the love, faith and values she has instilled in her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday, January 13, 2026 beginning at 9 a.m. at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania 19026 where her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
