Nancy Cunningham Obituary

Anna May "Nancy" Cunningham

1937 - 2025

Anna May “Nancy” Magee Cunningham, 87, the beloved matriarch of the Cunningham family, passed away on June 25, 2025, holding hands with her children. Born in Philadelphia on July 19, 1937, Nancy was raised in Southwest Philadelphia and a proud graduate of West Catholic High for Girls.

Nancy worked in the medical records department at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital for 40 years, where she formed lifelong friendships with the Sisters of Mercy.

Above all, Nancy greatest joy and achievement was her large close-knit family.

She married the love of her life, Frank Cunningham, an Army veteran and moved to Paris, France with their 2-month-old son, Frankie. Shortly thereafter, their daughter, Sissi was born in Paris. After a few years, they made their way back home and continue to grow and raise their family in Drexel Hill.

As a mother of five, grandmother of fourteen and great-grandmother of 21, Nancy was the heart of the Cunningham family. Her home was the gathering place for Sunday dinners, holiday celebrations, and impromptu family parties! Nancy had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important dates in her children's, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren's lives, never failing to send a card or make a call. She enjoyed her summers in Ocean City and Sea Isle with all the generations of her family.

Our Mom was always busy supporting our interests and being the “Local Taxi Driver” for us and all of Taylor Avenue, which was the epi center for FUN. There were plenty of nightly “happy hours”, while all the kid’s played basketball and stick ball waiting for the ice cream truck.

She taught us to live our faith, do our best and treasure our families. She was an avid churchgoer her entire life from Transfiguration to St. Andrews to St. Dorothy’s. Nancy was known for her feisty personality, very honest commentary and a sense of humor that will continue to bring joy and laughter to our family.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Nancy (Rob) Campbell, Michael (Susan) Cunningham, Sheila (Bob) Dempsey, 14 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren; her sister, Marie (Walt) Green, sisters-in-law, Helen Magee and Frances Cunningham Deeming and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Cunningham, her sons Frankie and Stephen Cunningham and her brother Frank Magee. It brings us solace knowing that she has been reunited with “her boys”.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Viewing Monday, June 30, 2025 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and Tuesday from 9:15AM to 10:00AM at Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill.
