1941 - 2023

Patrick J. McCollum, 82 of Ocean View, New Jersey (formerly of Havertown, PA) passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on October 24, 2023.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Joanne (nee Durney), his children, Patrick Jr. (Deneen), Jennie Smith (Robert), Daniel, and Timothy (Brittany), his grandchildren Patrick (Molly), Robert, Nicholas (Heather), Ryan, Amanda, Hali, Kaela, Justin, Joseph, Judah, Lyla, Harper, Dakota and Ever and his great grandchildren, Liam and Owen. In addition to his siblings Edna, Daniel, and Katherine and brother in-law Jerry, and sisterin-laws, Franny and Rose. He is predeceased by brothers, Terrance and James, brother in-law, Richard Fowler, and sister in-law Marion.

Pat was born July 27, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA to Daniel and Florence McCollum both of whom predeceased him. He attended school at St. Matthias in Bala Cynwyd, PA. He graduated from Monsignor Bonner in Drexel Hill, PA in 1959. He started his career following in his father’s footsteps as a sheet metal worker, along with his two brothers and was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Union Local 19. He finished his career in the trade with Ernie Menold Construction Company when he retired in 2001 at the age of 59. He also worked for George Conaghan Landscaping before starting his own landscaping/snow plowing business. He thoroughly enjoyed his “last job” as a security guard for a good friend, Stuart Visnov and Echelon Protection and Surveillance at Radnor High School until finally calling it quits for good in 2020. Pat had an extensive volunteer “career” resume. Baseball coach for his three sons at Hilltop Baseball League in Havertown, Cub Scout Den Leader, 4H group leader, Donegal/Irish Society member and 40 plus year Firefighter, Past President and Life Member with Bon Air Fire Company in Havertown.

In his free time, when he was not playing “Mr. Fix It” or (working on a project), he enjoyed both Freshwater Bass Fishing and Shark Fishing at the Jersey Shore. He even had a license plate “SharkOn” at one point. When not fishing, he was scanning wares at Flea Markets for fishing rods and reels to add to his immense collection.

Pat was a devoted man of his faith who loved the Lord, his family, church and the community. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Dorothy Catholic Church 4910 Township Line Rd., Drexel Hill, PA beginning at 10:00 am followed by his funeral mass at 11:30 am. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patrick J. McCollum’s name to one or more of the following: Holy Redeemer Hospice – Cape May County, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia or St. Dorothy’s Parish in Drexel Hill, PA
