Susan Nasuti Obituary

Susan Lynn Nasuti

1952 - 2024

Susan Lynn (Wood) Nasuti, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on May 30th, 2024, surrounded by her husband, Richard Nasuti, and children, Laura Nasuti, Samuel Nasuti, and Claire Nasuti. A force who didn’t suffer fools, believed in the power of arts, creativity, and education, Susan built community and connection wherever she went. She hated boring obituaries, grammar mistakes, and the beach. She loved hot dogs with chili sauce, Lord of the Rings, musicals, all animals, and was a real Anglophile. Originally from Franklin, PA, Susan attended Rocky Grove High School. She was a musician and gave piano lessons to younger kids in town before leaving to attend Lebanon Valley College. Ultimately she made her way to Philadelphia, earned her nursing degree, and got hitched to Richie (what a lucky break for him).

Kids from the block would be welcome in her house for anything: editing essays as the neighborhood wordsmith, first aid (she was everyone’s nurse), and to watch her play (and sometimes help her beat) video games. Her pies and Christmas cookies were famous - and if you were lucky, she’d throw in extra of your favorites in your cookie bag, making thousands of cookies each year. Susan never did anything halfway - if she was making a Victoria Sponge, she was making the jam from scratch. This often resulted in “European” dinner times for holiday meals, but there was never a shortage of crudite and hors d’oeuvres. We always had an open house on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and enough food for everyone. She was a meticulous planner and list maker and devised elaborate road trips - and every day the kids were home from school we had “The List” she’d leave for us to do.

She strongly believed in education and the arts, encouraging not only her children but anyone who showed any interest in creativity. She devoured books, especially murder mysteries, and made sure the kids always had something to read. She had many rules, but two of the most important were that all of her kids had to take one full year of piano lessons to learn to read music and if you committed to a team or club you had to see it through (but could quit once the season was over). Once her girls ended up at Baldwin, she became The Baldwin Mom, volunteering for every music and theater event, giving tours and speaking to prospective parents - she even convinced Richie to buy a station wagon so they’d be able to fit folding tables in the back to set up the tent at the crew races.

Susan became a grandmother - Gladdie, short for Galadriel - 9 years ago, and she was a phenomenal Gladdie. She continued to create traditions for her grandchildren such as chocolate turkeys on Thanksgiving. She always approached her grandkids thoughtfully as individuals. They love her so much.

Susan was predeceased by her father and mother, Curtis and Norma Wood. Susan was survived by her husband Richard Nasuti, children Laura Jean Nasuti (and husband Ben Hagberg), Sam Nasuti, and Claire Nasuti (and husband Peter Voakes) and her four grandchildren (Aislinn, Malcolm, Sienna, and Matilda). She was also survived by her siblings Libby Stover, Debbie Ring, George Wood, and their families.

As many people know, Susan suffered from several chronic diseases and chronic pain. She found some relief in her dogs, online communities, gaming, British TV, and Facetimes with her grandchildren. For those looking to remember Susan, we encourage donations to the following organizations in lieu of flowers: The Baldwin School Scholarship Fund or any organization that supports animals, the arts, or education.

As Dr. Who said, “We’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know. It was the best”. We wanted it to be a longer story - but it was a good one.
