     Thelma McClay Whitaker, died peacefully on Friday, November 11, under the care of Hospice at the Springs of Park Lane. She was 86 years old and a 40-year resident of the West Chester community. Thelma was born in Camden, New Jersey. Thelma graduated from Camden Catholic High in 1953 where she was a high stepping majorette and acclaimed lead performer in the senior class musical comedy production. She also taught dance to young students and was a graduate of Dance Masters of America. After high school, Thelma used her natural talents and years of study with the Cowanova Dance Institute in Philadelphia to land a coveted position with the famed New York City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Her professional career spanned four years and was highlighted by personal appearances for special events and celebrations. Thelma remained active in the Rockette Alumni Association for many years.

     Thelma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tommy Bell of Media PA;grandson Sam Whitaker and wife Jennifer Peters of Berwyn PA; and sister, Audrey Inglesby of Hudson, Florida. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Volinic and her sister, Maureen Hurst. Other surviving grandchildren include Nicole Bell, Dani Lynne Blair, Paige Cole, Alex Cartwright, Danny Cartwright, Cynthia Volinic, and Katy Volinic. Funeral services will be held at St. Dorothy’s Parish in Drexel Hill, PA, on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 10:00 am.  Viewing will begin at 9:00 am. Internment will be at Calvary CatholicCemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ.
