Thomas F. (Tim) Plummer, Jr.
1936 - 2025
Thomas F. (Tim) Plummer Jr. died peacefully surrounded by family on March 9th, 2025. He was born in 1936 in the city of Nashville, Tennessee, and spent his final years at Riddle Village in Media, Pennsylvania. Tim graduated from Nether Providence High School in 1954, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1959. He went on to serve 20 remarkable years with the United States Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979.
Tim's illustrious military career was adorned with honors, including the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism, and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a four-time Bronze Star Medalist and received the Air Medal of Valor six times. His awards also include the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal for service in the Palestine/Yom Kippur War, and the Cross of Gallantry from Vietnam.
His adventurous spirit took him across the globe, with overseas assignments in Australia, Egypt, Thailand, Laos, the former Soviet Union, and two separate tours in Vietnam. In his early career Tim taught geography at West Point, where he co-authored an atlas on the Soviet Union, now archived in the Library of Congress. He held a master's degree from the University of Illinois and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School before embarking on a successful career in senior executive roles across various companies. After retiring in 1998, he spent his time fly fishing, serving the Rose Valley Borough, visiting grandchildren at the beach, and writing his memoir, Unnecessary Risks. He always welcomed friendly swimming competition and counted laps daily year-round.
Tim was a born leader. He served Rose Valley first as Borough Council Controller, then President of the Rose Valley Borough Council, and next as Mayor for 13 years. He was instrumental in registering historical landmarks with the Department of the Interior and founded the Rose Valley Centennial Foundation. Tim played a role in housing the Rose Valley Museum at the Thunderbird Lodge.
A devoted member of St. John Chrysostom Roman Catholic Church in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, Tim embodied a life of faith and service. He was the son of the late Thomas and Sibyl Fahnestock Plummer of Wallingford, PA, and he was predeceased by his son George H. Plummer and his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathleen Kaufman Plummer.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Margee Hanford Plummer, and his children: Thomas F. Plummer III of Purcellville, Virginia; Eve Samuel of St. Louis, Missouri; and Christopher Plummer (Cynthia) of Richmond, Virginia. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Clare Bengtson (Erik) and Sierra Plummer, his sister, Mary Atkins (Gordon), and brother, Holbrook Plummer (Karen).
A funeral mass celebrating Tim’s life will be held at St. John Chrysostom Church in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, on April 12th, 2025 visitation from 9 am - 10:45 am, 11 am mass to follow. Interment will be private. Tim Plummer's legacy of adventure, love, and service will forever inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. We will miss him greatly and hope to honor his memory with continued devotion to the service of our communities and the world around us. May he rest in Peace.
