Timothy Matthew Getz, of Oxford, PA, passed away surrounded by his wife and children on November 22, 2023, from complications of mitochondrial disease. He was 56 years old.
Timothy was born in Media, PA, to Frank and Christine Getz on September 4, 1967. He attended Nativity BVM in Media and graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, PA. He went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts from Cabrini College in Radnor, PA. It was there that he met his wife, Lori (Waddell), whom he married in 1990. They went on to have two beautiful children, Sean and Rachel.
Tim worked briefly in fundraising for United Way before becoming a flight attendant for United Airlines, a career that spanned 22 years of his life. He received many accolades for his fine work and was well liked by fellow attendants. Tim was best known for his calm demeanor, genuine kindness, his “Dad”humor, and bright smile. He was also a devout Philly sports fan and was deeply passionate about music. His home was always filled with sounds of both.
Tim is survived by his wife, Lori (Waddell); his children, Sean and Rachel; his parents, Frank and Christine; his brother, Steven (Cecily), and sister, Suzanne (Tom); his mother-in-law, Carol Waddell; his sisters-in-law Sharon (John), Cyndi, and Wendy (Neal); and many nieces and nephews: Thomas, Gabby, Christopher, Julia, Katherine, Stephanie, Caroline, Megan, Jenny, Kyle, EJ, Zachary, Jonathan, Ryan, and Devin.
Services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Sacred Heart Church in Oxford, PA. Family will receive visitors from 10:00-11:00 am, after which will follow a Mass of Christian Burial and the Rite of Committal. The family welcomes you to join them for a luncheon immediately following the services in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, Tim expressed his wish for contributions to fund research and awareness for mitochondrial disease. If you choose to do so, you may contribute to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (umdf.org) or CHOP Mitochondrial Medicine (chop.edu).
