1937 - 2023
Virginia C. Popdan (nee Drakeley) of Drexel Hill, affectionately known as Ginny, died peacefully Monday July 10th , at the age of 86. Ginny was born in Philadelphia. She worked briefly at the Navy Yard . Met her husband, Dack, (“Richie”, ” Dick”) while still in High School at West Catholic and they married a few years later. She lovingly raised her 4 kids in Secane and later in Drexel Hill. She was a master chef and baker. Her coleslaw and poundcake are famous. Her favorite vacation spots were Wildwood Crest, Disney World and Myrtle Beach. She was an avid bowler for years at the Ridley Bowl & Sproul Lanes.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard V. “Dack” Popdan in 2017. She was the daughter of the late George Drakeley and Catherine (nee Rostick) She is survived by her children Jeanne (nee Popdan) Delay\Williams (Max), Tommy Popdan, Linda (Ed) Coll, Michael Popdan. Also survived by 9 grandchildren; Matthew (Margaux), Richie (Emily), Sean (Mikaela), Mary Caite (Sean), Alicia (Chris), Thomas, Justin, Tanner, Bryn and 3 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by siblings Mary (Nee Drakeley) Princiotta and Catherine (Nee Drakeley) Hunt.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing 9-10:45 am Friday, July 14, 2023 at St Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA where her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am. Interment Private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ginny's memory to the Alzheimers Association.
