W. DAVID BREEN, SR., ESQ (Butch/Dave), passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2021, at the age of 73. Dave resided in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late David W. Breen and Marie (nee McCarron) Breen. Dave was the beloved father of Jennifer (Jen) M. Breen, W. David (Dave) Breen and Phillip (Phil) M. Breen. He is also survived and cherished by his siblings Karen Davis (nee Breen), Maureen Esslinger (nee Breen) and John (Jack) Breen, Esq and his beloved nieces, Julia (Julie) Breen, Tara Paraska (nee Esslinger) Kristen Kirchner (Esslinger) and Maura Breen and late Richard (Rickie) Esslinger and his great nieces and nephews Olivia Kinsley, Ben Kinsley, Jenna Paraska, Josie Paraska, Haley Kirchner, Braeden Kirchner, Rickie Kirchner and Violet Borge.
Dave was an adored, treasured, and loyal friend to many. He was known to his friends and family as the rock that you could always count on to be there, in any situation, no matter how great or small. Dave approached every area of his life this way. He was always there for those who needed him the most. He dedicated much of his life to the pursuit of and advocate justice, first as a prosecutor and then as defense attorney. Among the numerous accolades of his illustrious and celebrated career include having been recognized as Delaware County’s Top Criminal Lawyer by The Philadelphia Inquirer and Lawyer of the Year by the Delaware County Bar Association, which he also served on its board of directors. He began this strong commitment and dedication from the beginning, during in time in law school at Loyola University New Orleans, which he served as President of his graduating class of 1974 and was named an Honorary Colonel of Louisiana. Dave received his bachelors from LaSalle University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1970 and was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania 1966 and was also an Army Reservist,
He was more than a dedicated father. He actively, beyond supported all his children’s pursuits, their greatest champion, and those in their community too. He was a beloved coach to many in baseball, basketball and soccer at Brandywine Youth Club (BYC) teams and was a commissioner for the club as well as at St. Thomas the Apostle School.
Services will be held at Ruffenach Funeral Home in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 16 at 11 A.M. Visitation beginning at 10 A.M.
