Walter LeRoy "Roy" Cosner
Walter LeRoy “Roy” Cosner, 91, of Media (formerly of Newtown Square), PA, passed away peacefully January 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Roy was born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Walter LeRoy Cosner and Meta (Chambers) Cosner. He graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1951, and subsequently spent two years serving in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. After his years of service, he accepted a position at DuPont in Philadelphia. He retired in 1998, having worked in several different departments over a span of nearly 40 years at the company.
Roy married Vincentine “Vee” Vignola on October 17, 1964, at St. Alice Church in Upper Darby. They were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage this past October.
For most of his life, he especially loved playing sports: baseball, softball, bowling, and in his later years, even golf. If he wasn’t playing sports, he was watching or reading about them. He was a diehard fan of all of Philly’s professional sports teams as well as the Penn State Nittany Lions, often taking in the games with his son, Glen.
After retirement, he and Vee set out to travel the world, cruising and vacationing to nearly 20 countries. His other hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, socializing with close friends, and vacationing at the Jersey Shore.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents as well as many loving aunts and uncles. He is survived by wife Vee, daughter Gail (PJ) Roup, and son Glen (Lisa) Cosner.
Memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
