William J. Boylan
“Bill”
1934 – 2026
William J. Boylan age 91, of Wallingford, Pennsylvania died peacefully April 28, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his son Billy and parents Thomas and Mary (nee Mullen) Boylan. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty eight years Mary Anne (nee Shea) Boylan, his son Christopher (Margie) Boylan, daughters Mary Anne (Al) Paoletti and Carol Boylan Baker and Billy’s wife Tronya. Also survived by his 9 granddaughters and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Philadelphia as the youngest of 4 children to his Irish immigrant parents. Growing up he was active with his friends playing shortstop (his uniform is in the cedar chest). He grew up in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish and when he was 17 he met his Mary Anne. He graduated from West Catholic High School in 1952, Villanova University in 1956 and received a Masters degree from Virginia Polytech University.
The Boylans settled in Wallingford, PA in 1965 where they raised their four children. Bill was a Mechanical Engineer at Naval Ships Systems Engineering Station where he rose through the ranks to be the first Technical Director in 1987 joining the Senior Executive Service. Bill won several awards for professional articles he had written. Bill retired in 1992 to serve the community with Mary Anne.
Bill and Mary Anne eventually became the Worldwide Leaders of Marriage Encounter where they traveled the world promoting the joy of a peaceful and happy marriage. They stayed involved with Marriage Encounter until 2024.
Bill’s greatest joy was his family. Bill was active in his four children’s lives as a coach, homework helper, driving coach, and his best quality was listening and providing guidance. As the family grew and his children married they added 9 granddaughters, Bill would greet each new blessing at the hospital in his tuxedo. Dad enjoyed teaching the kids sports, was their parallel parking coach, birthday lunch buddy, model train partner, and most of all enjoyed family gatherings. Those granddaughters and their husbands gave him 9 great grandchildren to love and play trains and school with.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation Tuesday, May 5, 2026 beginning at 9:30 – 10:45am at St. John Chrysostom Church, 617 S. Providence Road, Wallingford, Pennsylvania 19086 where his Funeral Mass will follow at 11am.
