William “Nute” John Haftl Jr., beloved son of Margaret Mary Logue and William John Haftl Sr.,
passed away on February 7th, 2025 at his home surround by loved ones. Born on November
30th, 1937, Nute spent his childhood in the heart of Collingdale, where he developed a lifelong
love for the city and its vibrant community.
A graduate of Collingdale High School in 1956, Nute embarked on a distinguished journey by
joining the Air Force, followed by dedicated service in the Air Force reserves. His commitment to
his country was matched by his dedication to his career at Atlantic Aviation at the Philadelphia
Airport, where he worked as a Refueling Lineman up until retirement.
It was after his basic training that Nute met the love of his life, Maryanne. Their 63 years of
marriage were a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
Nute was a man who was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and cherished the outdoors, whether
by the poolside or under the carport in his favorite rocking chair, always ready to wave at
neighbors returning home from work. An avid bird watcher, he found joy in observing eagles at
Conowingo and welcoming visitors with a friendly smile and a cold evening beer. His passion for
hunting, fishing, and engaging with fellow outdoorsmen filled his life with countless memorable
moments.
Known for his humor and classic one-liners, Nute's wit and charm will forever be cherished by
his family and friends. His legacy of laughter and warmth will live on in their hearts.
Nute leaves behind his loving wife, Maryanne, and his children, Barbara, Nancy (Paul), John
(Melissa), and Donny (Sharon). Brother John (Sandy). He was a proud grandfather to 10
grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 11 great-grandchildren. Nute was predeceased by his
parents and his son, William “Billy” John Haftl III.
William “Nute” John Haftl Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit of kindness,
humor, and love will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
