Leonard Richard Dougherty

1964 - 2021

He left behind a hell of a lot of stuff!

Leonard Richard Dougherty (Lenny) passed away unexpectedly on Friday January 22, 2021. He was 56 years old.  He left behind a lot of stuff that his family will have no idea what to do with it. But we are resourceful.  He left behind a beloved family of animals.  He was a breeder of Labrador retrievers for over 20 years. These dogs and their pups were his pride and joy.  So much so that he returned home after a full knee replacement to take care of them instead of going to a rehab facility or to one of our homes to be cared for as he healed.

Len was funny, loving, and cantankerous. He told you EXACTLY what he was thinking, whether you wanted to hear it or not.  He loved his family and friends fiercely.  He hosted many of our family’s annual Mother’s Day barbeques in his backyard so all the moms in our family would not have to cook.

Len spent most of his adult life giving back to his community. He learned and shared many lessons in life as he navigated 25 years of sobriety. He helped and fueled the opening of 7 Narcotics Anonymous groups in his community. Lenny was an active member of the Penns -Grove-Excelsior Lodge #54 in Carney’s Point, N.J.

Most importantly, Lenny was loved by so many people. He has one older sister (Brenda Lee Dougherty), one younger sister (Sharon Potter) and a younger brother (Stephen Dougherty). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He loved all the kids in the family dearly and they all loved him so much.  His niece Brianna Potter has taken on the responsibility of his animals and has helped to find them homes.

Lenny’s memorial service will be held on Sunday 1/31/2021 at Ruffenach Family Funeral Homes located at 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, Pa. 19026.  You may visit with the family from 12:30-1:00 pm and the memorial service will be held immediately afterwards from 1:00-1:30.

Special provisions for the health and safety of others include wearing a mask at all times during the visitation and the service and respecting all health and safety standards as defined by the CDC and as set by Ruffenach Family Funeral Homes.
