Maureen T. Prowse

1953 – 2019

Maureen T. Prowse a longtime resident of East Norriton died on September 26, 2019. She was 66 years old. Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Prowse was a 1971 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School, Drexel Hill and received her college degree in 1984 from Gwennyd Mercy College.

Mrs. Prowse was very committed to her Catholic faith. She devoted 20 years to Catholic education teaching at Saint Joseph School, Collingdale PA, St. Helena, Center Square, PA, Saint John Neumann / Saint Coleman, Bryn Mawr, PA, Saint John the Evangelist, Hapeville, Georgia and Saint John the Apostle, Hialeah, Florida and was deemed by the Office of Catholic Education as an “Expert Teacher” for mentoring new teachers to the schools she serviced. She also worked for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as chief bookkeeper for Catholic Charities in the early 1970s.

As a teenage member of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish CYO in Drexel Hill she helped to form a group called “New Hope” which on a monthly basis got senior citizens out of their homes for a cooked meal in the parish Center. This became a catalyst for the beginning of Senior Citizen Meals for many parishes in the Archdiocese. Mrs. Prowse was also the second member to join the Mercy Corp group which is a service organization similar to the Peace Corp for ministry established by the Sisters at Mercy Merion, PA giving many years of dedication to their causes. While on a teaching sabbatical she also worked as a unit manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Blue Bell.

Maureen is survived by her husband Dennis E. Prowse and siblings Edward J. Reavy, Rose Mary T. Biehl, Kathaleen T. Reavy, John D. Reavy, Daniel J. Reavy, Theresa R. Welsher, Isabel T. Burley, Thomas J. Reavy, Marianne T. Curley along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is the daughter of the late John J. and Isabel M. Reavy, and sister of the late Michael J. Reavy and Margaret Ann T. Reavy.

A Visitation beginning at 9am and Mass of Christian Burial at 10am will be celebrated on Thursday, October 3 at Saint Titus Roman Catholic Church, 3006 Keenwood Road, Norristown, PA 19403. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Parkinson Council Inc., 555 East City Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004, in lieu of flowers..
