On Thursday, January 28th Marilyn Tucker died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving husband and 6 children at the age of 85. Marilyn was born on January 19, 1936 in Darby, PA to Carmelo and Edwarda (Cremona) Cavallaro.
She attended St Louis grade school and graduated from Villa Maria High School. She remained an avid learner and took language classes at St Joseph’s University and the University of Pennsylvania. She spoke several languages including Italian, Russian and Spanish. She completed a certificate program preparing her to work as a unit secretary. She worked at GE as a secretary in her early days. Marilyn met Tom at a dance in Upper Darby Chez-Vous where they started their love affair of 58 years. On June 2, 1962 they married. They raised six children, Tom, Kathy, John, Denise, Diane and Marcy.
Marilyn loved to travel. She spent many summers traveling with her parents to Malta visiting the homeland of her mother and also made trips to Sicily, the homeland of her father. She loved her family vacations especially to Clearwater Beach where the water was her favorite temperature – bathtub temp.
She loved music and dancing. She was a talented pianist. She loved to cook and was an avid collector of cookbooks.
Marilyn was a loving mother and a kind, generous friend to the many who loved her. She made friends with everyone and quickly knew a person’s heritage, any language they spoke and how many children they had. Marilyn was very devoted to the Blessed Mary and attended Perpetual Novena services at the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal for much of her life, praying for all in her life that needed it.
She loved holidays and having her family all around her baking, playing games, dancing or just laughing. She was sadder about the end of summer and Christmas vacation than her children were. She had the best laugh and giggle along with a mischievous sense of humor. She loved to make everyone laugh.
